Mon, 06 Sep 2010 23:00:00 +0100 | BioMed Central
Conclusions:
The data presented here have clearly profiled the overall structure of vaginal communities and clearly demonstrated that BV is associated with a dramatic increase in the taxonomic richness and diversity of vaginal microbiota. The study also provides the most comprehensive picture of the vaginal community structure and the bacterial ecosystem, and significantly contributes to the current understanding of the etiology of BV. Self-reported sexually transmitted infections and their correlates among men who have sex with men in Norway: an Internet-based cross-sectional survey
Sun, 05 Sep 2010 23:00:00 +0100 | BMC Infectious Diseases
The objectives of our study were to assess factors, associated with recent selected STI among MSM, living in Norway in order to guide prevention measures.
Methods:
We conducted a cross-sectional Internet-based survey during 1-19 October 2007 among members of a MSM-oriented Norwegian website using an anonymous questionnaire on demographics, sexual behaviour, drug and alcohol use, and STI. The studied outcomes were gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV or Chlamydia infection in the previous 12 months. Associations between self-reported selected STI and their correlates were analysed by multivariable Poisson regression. P value for trend (p-trend), adjusted prevalence ratios (PR) with 95% confidence intervals [] were calculated.
Results:
Among 2430 eligible 16-74 years old respondents, 184 (8%) reported ...

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) established the two-year Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship in 1995 to address an on-going demand in the field of public health for quantitative policy analysis, health economics-based inquiry, and integrative health services research. Prevention effectiveness aims to assess the public health impact of policies, programs, and practices by determining their effectiveness, quality, and cost.
